Project Overview

Another project successfully completed, this one proved there is no barrier too great for our team to traverse. With over 108,000 square feet of wall, or the equivalent of approximately 2,700 precast panels, this was the largest project west of the Mississippi AND the first U.S. project serving the natural gas market.

A Compliance-Driven Partnership

One of the largest natural gas processing companies in the U.S., DCP Midstream Partners LP was expanding its operations with a new natural gas processing facility near Kersey, Colorado. With nearby communities to consider, the project required an effective noise barrier solution to help mitigate operational noise and reduce its impact on the surrounding area.

TruHorizon Environmental Solutions (TES), an environmental compliance management firm specializing in turnkey solutions for noise control and regulatory compliance, was brought in to support the project. Their engineered approach to noise mitigation was complemented by the EKHO team’s expertise in designing and supplying high-performance noise barrier systems for complex industrial and infrastructure applications.

The owner specifically requested a precast concrete noise barrier system. With EKHO’s established track record in sound-absorptive precast concrete noise barriers across North America, TES reached out to our team to develop a solution suited to the facility’s acoustic, structural, and site requirements.

Delivering at Scale

With limited previous experience installing precast concrete noise barrier panels, TES worked closely with the EKHO team throughout the design and planning process. Our team collaborated with TES to help optimize the layout and identify opportunities to improve installation efficiency using the NB15 post-and-panel absorptive noise barrier system.

The final system design was completed by TES’s in-house team and called for a substantial 20-foot-tall absorptive perimeter noise barrier, extending approximately 5,400 feet around the natural gas processing facility. The scale of the wall required careful coordination between design, manufacturing, delivery, and installation.

Project delivery also demanded a fast turnaround. After the project was booked in July, EKHO was supplying multiple truckloads of precast noise barrier panels to the site each day by September. As unforeseen site obstructions and changes to post spacing emerged during installation, custom-length panels were coordinated and manufactured to accommodate field conditions. EKHO continued supporting the project through these adjustments until the full industrial noise barrier system was successfully installed.
